Warm up this winter with flavour straight from the farm

As the Ceres Valley settles into the crisp calm of winter, there’s nothing better than a bowl of soul-warming soup and a chilled glass of Loxtonia cider. This July through August, join us for Loxtonia’s Soup & Cider Saturdays – a cosy celebration of local flavour, comfort food, and authentic farm charm.

Hosted at the Loxtonia Cider Tasting Room, these events offer a unique way to enjoy cider the way it was meant to be; right where it’s made, surrounded by the orchard and the people who make it.

For two Saturdays, we’ll be serving up hearty, bowls of soups perfectly paired with our award-winning South African ciders — and we’re sharing the easy soup recipes too, so you can recreate a little Loxtonia warmth in your own kitchen.

Cauliflower Soup & Loxtonia African Sundowner Baobab Flavoured Cider
Saturday 27 July

Creamy, nutty cauliflower soup meets the vibrant notes of our Loxtonia African Sundowner Baobab Flavoured Cider. With its subtle tropical undertones, this cider brings brightness and balance to the savoury richness of this indulgent winter favourite.

Enjoy this comforting pairing in our cosy Tasting Room, where the aroma of warm soup mingles with the scent of fresh apples — a true winter-in-the-orchard experience.

Cauliflower & African Sundowner Baobab Flavoured Cider Soup Recipe:
Serves 4
Ingredients:
  • 1 medium head cauliflower (cut into florets)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 carrot, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup double cream
  • 2½ cups Loxtonia African Sundowner Baobab Flavoured Cider
  • 1 chicken stock cube
  • Nutmeg, salt, pepper
  • Chives (optional)
Method:
  • Sauté onion and garlic in butter until soft.
  • Add carrot, cauliflower, African Sundowner Baobab Flavoured Loxtonia cider, and seasonings.
  • Add stock, cover, and simmer for 50 mins.
  • Blend until smooth, stir in milk and cream, and heat through.
  • Serve with chives, black pepper, or crusty bread.
Butternut Soup & Loxtonia Crispy Apple Cider
Saturday 31 August

This silky, spiced butternut soup is perfectly complemented by a chilled glass of Loxtonia Crispy Apple Cider – a refreshingly crisp, dry cider that cuts beautifully through the soup’s rich, velvety texture.

This pairing is best enjoyed farm-side in our Tasting Room, where fresh air, orchard views, and warm hospitality create the perfect winter escape.

Butternut & Crispy Apple Cider Soup Recipe:
Serves 6
Ingredients:
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried sage
  • 1 medium butternut squash, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup Loxtonia Crispy Apple Cider
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 1 cup full cream milk or cream
  • Crumbed bacon bits for garnish
Method:
  • Sauté onion, thyme, and sage in butter until translucent.
  • Add butternut, cider, and stock. Simmer (or pressure cook for 8–10 minutes).
  • Blend until smooth, stir in milk or cream, and garnish with bacon bits.
